Whenever my sisters and I step out of the house, we are constantly stopped and asked about our hair. Taking good care of your hair is so important, especially since it’s the only head of hair you have! Today, I want to share some of our tips and tricks on how we manage and maintain our hair.
Since my sisters and I have very thick, long hair, we have to ensure that we are taking proper care of not only our hair but also our scalp. It is so important to nourish your scalp so it does not become dry. Dry scalps may cause dandruff, an itchy head, and hair loss. One of the first things we do, when we know we are washing our hair is oil our hair. There are many different types of hair oils out there: Coconut oil, Black Seed oil, Olive oil, Jojoba oil, etc., however, our go to hair oil is Amla oil. Amla is an Indian Gooseberry with a very strong smell (you get used to it), with powerful antioxidants, such as Vitamin C, which help protect cells from damage. Some of the other ingredients that Amla contains are Calcium, Phosphorus, Iron, Carotene, and Vitamin B complex. These are all essential natural ingredients that help to nourish your scalp and hair, as well as make your hair thicker.
Applying hair oils (especially Amla) has been practiced throughout the world for centuries, especially India. Growing up, my mom always applied Amla oil to our hair before washing it, and my sisters and I have continued the tradition to this day! Although Amla oil has a strong smell to it, if you are able to handle it for at least an hour – you will definitely LOVE the results.
Now, I will go into detail as to how I apply the oil correctly for maximum benefit. Sometimes, I warm up the oil in the microwave to allow it to work better on my hair and scalp (this is when I want extra pampering). Once the oil is applied and massaged into the scalp, you can go about your daily activities and chores around the house. After at least an hour, you can wash your hair using your favorite shampoo. I recommend using a clarifying shampoo, followed by conditioner, so that there is no leftover oil or oily residue on your scalp or hair. Then, blow dry and style as desired.
I guess our family secret’s out! We get our thick, shiny, and full head of hair from Amla oil! My sisters and I all recommend this to anyone and we definitely swear by this oil. You will notice the difference immediately. So, if you are struggling with thin hair, scalp problems, shine problems, or anything else hair related, I urge you to give this special oil a try. You will not regret it! Feel free to leave a comment or share your thoughts below! Stay glam, stay beautiful!
